Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they cannot be true Spurs fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight home defeat of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his area.

He came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs fans jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

One of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with one another moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half performance.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second score was "totally avoidable".

"I do understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Italian national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Tottenham.

He said after the game that he had to accept the criticism.

"The second goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for it," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to stay more composed, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn results. This match is a poor defeat and it's tough to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.

"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was all about trying to make the correct contact and get it on target. I had a good sense, the moment it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

While Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th at home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to come before the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a unique story, today we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
