The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
