Supporters Call for Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are urging that a individual who leaped a fence and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the Australian man pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile includes clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
