Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
