A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by three suspects, one of whom shot at him before fleeing on foot.

The reason behind the attack remains unclear and no arrests have been made, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.

Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the assault.

Important clues, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to find their destination," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were ready to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the community to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, especially for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a South African TV network.

Beyond his role as a presenter, Stock was active in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying elite guarding services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.

In a release, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will live on".
