Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and was to take time away from the action for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

England have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out of the third.
