Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and stated they should be taken into custody and sentenced "by death" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Recording That Provoked the Debate

The video footage, published on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic elected officials who formerly acted in armed forces or security positions.

"Similar to us, you all took an vow to protect and defend this constitution," the officials declared in the short video. "Currently, the threats to our governing document are not only from overseas, but from domestically. Our regulations are clear, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can decline illegal orders, you should decline illegal orders. No one has to execute directives that violate the legal system or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Incensed Response

The video message reportedly provoke a angry reply from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another post, he wrote: "This represents really serious, and Dangerous to our Country. Their statements cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Respond

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats published a combined declaration condemning the remarks.

"Violent politics has no place in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all worked our United States with exceptional patriotism and excellence. We clearly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky death threats against members of Congress, and urge GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to make certain the safety of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these radical online messages and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The representatives who participated in the video also published a statement.

"We serve as former service members and defense specialists who value this United States and swore an vow to defend and uphold the national charter of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we aim to maintain it. No warning, coercion, or call for violence will prevent us from that important obligation."

"The significant point is that the former president considers it punishable by capital punishment for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Military personnel should know that we have their protection as they execute their oath to the national charter and duty to obey only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "All citizens must join forces and censure the ex-president's requests for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a period for moral clarity."

Additional Partisan Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the capital punishment of elected officials."

He stated: "This represents an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The GOP leader supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of Congress advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in American history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly informed journalists that in what he read of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the offense of treason" but that "lawyers have to parse the terminology and establish all that."

Administration Response

During a administration briefing on that day, when asked by a reporter, "Would the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson replied: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the president is responding to," the spokesperson stated. "You have active officials of the US Congress who coordinated to organize a digital communication to personnel of the American armed forces, to active duty service members advising them to disobey the executive's proper directives."

She stated: "The purity of our military relies on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is violated, it can cause casualties, it can lead to chaos, and precisely what these elected officials ... are essentially promoting."
