The UK is prepared to move forward with utilizing the total value of frozen Russia's funds to support the Ukrainian military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the decision would be carried out in close cooperation with the US.

British sanctions have frozen over £25bn of Russian funds since the Russian government launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, money sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had only been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward employing the complete amount of the seized Russian sovereign assets to conclude the conflict.

He noted that more restrictions over the next period would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This statement comes after European officials convened in Copenhagen last week to debate utilizing seized Russia's holdings for a €140 billion financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, US President Donald Trump urged international partners to take or otherwise use immobilized Russia's assets, according to media sources.

The total of frozen Russia's assets in the EU is estimated to be almost €211bn.

The Russian government executed extensive aerial attacks all over the Ukrainian territory on recently, leading to electricity outages in many areas of Kyiv, the city, and eight other regions.

Several persons were killed and a minimum of 20 people were wounded in the strike, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a post on an online platform following the attack, Zelensky stated that the premeditated assault targeted public and utility structures.

"The necessity is not empty words but decisive action - from the United States, EU, and the G7 - in providing anti-aircraft weapons and applying sanctions," he wrote.

"Every sanction decision undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky declared, in a separate post.

Also on Friday, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to join the PURL program, under which partner nations buy military equipment from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While applauding the United Kingdom's strong support for Ukraine, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would participate in the system, as well as impose additional restrictions on Moscow.
